The things I do like about the Onkyo is the Bluetooth connectivity and simplicity, especially the wireless sub-woofer. I think it's going to be pretty hard to really figure this out until we know everything about everything here; room, speakers, source , processing, etc. The advantage to a 3.1 would be more dynamics since you are spreading the load over a 3rd speaker.

I only added a center channel when I changed locations and the layout of my room now demands it, as there is important seating much closer to the left speaker than the right. I found that in previuos setups that were fairly symetrical, with the seating a good distance from either L or R speaker, the dialog anchored to the screen nicely without a center, and saved me cost. That being said, IF there's going to be a center speaker, it had better be a good one, and had better be designed to work with the L and R speakers .
Like i mentioned before we're going to have quite a long lounge but due to the way the room is laid out the speakers will be quite close together. The lounge is about 3.6 metres long but the wall where the two mains and tv will sit is slightly less than 2.8 metres long, i imagine this may be slightly sub optimal? For anything that is encoded in 5.1, my advice is to get the center channel speaker if you can afford it. I think I'm going to start with a 2.0 setup (two RC-10s), and slowly add on the sub and center.
EPIC SOUNDAs mentioned, a 3.1 channel soundbar will give you better sound clarity with dialogue , since dialogue primarily comes out of the center channel speaker. Dialogue, on a 2.1 channel system, will be mixed with sound effects and music, which ends up being a little less crisp and clear than on a 3.1 system. As was mentioned earlier, the center channel 's main use is to anchor the sound to the screen. Given that your L&R speakers are basically going to be flanking the screen, and not very far apart, odds are that you will be able to get a solid center image with just the two speakers. Remember, the center channel is almost completely dialogue. The real advantages of the center channel are to anchor the location of dialogue to the screen and the ability to adjust dialog level relative to the main speakers.
I currently have a cheap 5.1 surround sound from walmart. The only thing i dislike about it is that when i watch sports of any kind, in 5.1 i always hear way too much going on. When you’re trying to decide on which soundbar is right for you, a 2.1 or 3.1 soundbar is a good place to start. Whether you choose a 2.1 or 3.1 soundbar to start with depends on your budget and your personal preferences. Additionally, the soundbar’s external components are often compact and/or wireless, so you can continue to keep your room tidy even when you add on components.
Czech drama is, unsurprisingly, played in Czech, which quite reduces its interest to English speakers. I run 2.0 in my bedroom and 2.0 in the game room where the video games and kids shows are played. It works quite well if the speakers are properly spaced and the receiver is configured properly.
